What To Expect During Your Massage Sessions:
The first massage session usually takes a little longer than 1 hour (allow 1.5 hours). In this time you will need to complete some intake documents (covering details such as your contact details, medical history, goals for treatment). We may also conduct a posture analysis and assess your body's movement patterns if necessary in order to create the right treatment plan for you. In light of this, please wear comfortable clothing.
The massage itself typically takes 1 hour. The usual procedure is for the therapist to leave the room while the client removes their clothing (leaving their underpants on) and lies under sheets/blankets or towels on the massage table. Only the body region being treated will be exposed at any one time. The therapist will leave the room again at the end of the session so the client can get dressed in privacy. If appropriate, homecare stretches and/or exercises may be advised to assist with maximising results.
After Your Massage Session:
Sometimes clients are tired after a massage treatment and may feel a little more emotional than usual. This is quite normal, so it is recommended that treatments are scheduled so you are able to relax afterwards if possible. Other clients may feel energised after a treatment. It is different for everyone.
It is important to drink more water than usual after a treatment to help in flushing out any toxins that may have been released from your tissues during the massage. This will help your body to recover faster and accept changes promoted by massage.
In Conclusion:
I hope this brief blog has given you an insight as to the type of massage provided at Target Massage, and what to expect during, and after, your massage treatment.
This blogspot was initially set up for posting assignments as part of my training in the Diploma of Advanced Massage Therapy at the Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin. In light of this, there are a few posts regarding different areas of massage (history, sustainability, Effects of massage, etc) that may be of interest to you. Feel free to browse the articles.
Cheers
